The ideal ballet teacher
According to Anna Paskevska of Getting Started in Ballet, the ideal teacher should possess the following:
In The Parents Book of Ballet, Angela Whitehill and William Noble have this to say:
- Credentials from a recognized institution: a professional school, company, or college
- Some professional experience
- A patient but not pampering attitude
- Comfort with the material, and an ability to organize the material logically and appropriately for each age group
- An ability to inspire a feeling of purpose and excitement among the students
- A critical eye for making appropriate criticism in an encouraging manner
- An ability to maintain concentration and discipline at all times
- Above all, a love for the experience of dance, and an unselfish desire to see he students improve
In The Parents Book of Ballet, Angela Whitehill and William Noble have this to say:
"The fine ballet teacher infuses a child with a deep love of all the arts and must have a personal respect and love for the ballet art form. The teacher should believe in it and live it."
